I had the opportunity to participate in a training called „Horyzont Lidera”. It was an interesting adventure where week after week we received a new dose of knowledge on topics relevant to leaders and managers. And so it went for 13 weeks.
I had the chance to be a team leader for over 5 and a half years. It was a very interesting and engaging adventure for me, and I think I’m maturing to the point where I’d like to get back on that track. But let’s get back to the training…
What was in the training and what did I take away from it?
The training consisted of different „islands,” which were essentially „categories” that contained various topics.
What islands were these?

- Technology – If someone had the training The Way of the Modern Architect, it was a repetition of certain things. In short, about such important things as ADR, evolutionary architecture or what are architectural drivers.
- Team Ambassador – How to build relationships, how to communicate well, or how to connect a team with the world. Many things were intuitive to me, I am a very empathetic person so maybe that’s where it comes from.
- Team – how to shape a team and everything related to it.
- Work Management – it was a very big island. What I remember most is crisis management and a step-by-step walkthrough of what such a situation might look like. But you could find answers to questions like what is DoD, etc. General things that are somewhere around us.
- Responsibility – there were a few things here that I wasn’t aware of. For example, what compliance we have and how we should manage it. There were also some topics about law and finance.
- Self-Caregiver – Here is a very interesting piece of advice about retrospection with yourself. I have personally used something like this and I think it helps to develop. Lots of interesting advice, I think this chapter also makes you realize a lot.
- Leading People – A very large island, a lot of scenes showing different situations with wrong and correct reactions.
An additional interesting topic was how to conduct recruitment and what is important in them. What an interesting experience it was after going through a few interviews and understanding it on my own skin 🙂 How many of them look really bad and what is important about them. - Goals – Without a good goal it is hard to see where we are going. The ability to establish and understand this idea is very important. I personally understood it after a few years, in my opinion the topic is not trivial and it is worth knowing it well.
What have I learned?
Since I had the opportunity to be a leader, many things were already known to me. But I think that even if someone already has the knowledge to be a leader, you can learn many things and gain self-confidence.
Everything that makes us a better version of ourselves is worth attention and that is how I approach this training.
I think I will return to this path someday…
