What data is collected and why
Comments
When you leave a comment, the Site stores the name and e-mail address you provide, the comment text, your IP address and browser user-agent string. This is used to display the comment and to detect spam (via the Akismet service, operated by Automattic Inc.; their privacy policy). An anonymized hash of your e-mail address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check for a profile picture.
Contact form
Messages sent through the contact form (name, e-mail address, message content) are delivered to my mailbox and used solely to respond to your enquiry. They are not added to any mailing list.
Newsletter
If you subscribe to the newsletter, the e-mail address you provide is used solely to notify you about new articles, based on your consent (the checkbox under the form). You can withdraw consent at any time — via the unsubscribe link in any e-mail or through the contact form — and no further e-mails will be sent. Your address is never shared with third parties for their own purposes.
Spam protection (Cloudflare Turnstile)
The comment and contact forms may be protected by Cloudflare Turnstile. When you submit a form, your IP address and a challenge token are sent to Cloudflare, Inc. to verify the submission is not automated (legal basis: legitimate interest in keeping the Site secure and spam-free). See Cloudflare’s privacy policy for details.
Statistics
The Site uses WP Statistics, a self-hosted analytics tool. Visit data (pages viewed, referrer, anonymized IP address, browser type) is processed on the Site’s own server. No analytics data is shared with third parties and no cross-site tracking takes place.
Server logs
The hosting provider (OVH, EU-based) keeps standard server logs (IP address, request time, requested URL) for security and diagnostics.
Cookies
The Site does not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. The only items stored in your browser are:
- your cookie-notice choice (kept in local storage),
- optional convenience cookies that remember your name and e-mail when you comment,
- a session cookie if you log in (site administrators only).
Embedded content
Articles may embed content from other websites (e.g. videos, code snippets). Embedded content behaves as if you visited the originating website, which may collect data about you and use its own cookies.
How long data is kept
Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so follow-up comments can be recognized automatically. Contact-form correspondence is kept only as long as needed to handle the enquiry. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Statistics data is stored in aggregate form on the Site’s server.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal data the Site holds about you (this does not include data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes). To exercise any of these rights, use the contact form. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in Poland: Prezes UODO).
